Okay, so I decided to dive into the world of online teaching. Specifically, I wanted to see what “online psychology adjunct faculty jobs” were out there. Here’s how it went down:

First, I dusted off my resume. Made sure all my degrees and certifications were front and center. I mean, who’s gonna hire a psychology instructor without the right credentials, right?
Then, I hit up the usual job boards. You know, the big ones, plus some that are specifically for higher education jobs. I typed in my keywords: “online,” “psychology,” “adjunct,” “faculty.”
I started scrolling. And scrolling. And scrolling. Man, there were a lot of listings! Some wanted a PhD, some were okay with a Master’s. Some wanted years of experience, others were more entry-level.
I started bookmarking the ones that seemed like a good fit. Location wasn’t a big deal, since, well, it’s online. But I did pay attention to the specific courses they needed instructors for. Intro to Psych? Abnormal Psych? I made sure I had experience with the subject matter.

Next up: the dreaded application process. Each school had its own system, of course. Some were simple – upload a resume and cover letter. Others were a beast, asking for teaching philosophies, sample syllabi, and all sorts of stuff.
I spent a good chunk of time tailoring my cover letters. No generic stuff! I read each job description carefully and made sure to highlight how my skills and experience matched exactly what they were looking for.
- I made a list that what my skills are.
- Try to match every single job description.
I also started practicing my “online teaching” presence. Set up a little home office area, made sure my internet connection was solid, and even did a few practice video calls with a friend to make sure I looked and sounded okay.
Waiting…and Following Up
After sending out a bunch of applications, it was mostly a waiting game. I did send some follow-up emails, just a quick “Hey, I’m really interested in this position” kind of thing. Didn’t want to be annoying, but also wanted to show I was serious.

Finally,The first interview invitation email comes to me,I was so exciting!
It’s still early days, but I’ve had a few interviews. Some were video calls, others were just phone screens. They all asked about my teaching experience, my familiarity with online learning platforms, and my approach to student engagement.
Fingers crossed! It’s a competitive field, but I’m feeling pretty good about my chances. Will keep you guys posted on how it goes!
