Okay, so I finally decided to tackle getting my psychology license in Michigan. It’s been on my to-do list forever, and I figured it was time to just get it done. First thing I did was try to make sense of the state’s website – you know, the official government one. Honestly, it was a bit of a maze! Lots of pages, lots of clicking around.

I started by hunting for the actual requirements. I mean, what exactly do I need to do to get this license? I eventually found a section buried deep in the site that listed everything out. It talked about supervised experience hours, the exams, the application forms… the whole nine yards.
Finding the Forms
Next up, I needed to find the application forms. It took some serious digging, I found the “Application for Psychologist Licensure.” Filled that bad boy out, which, let me tell you, was no small task. They wanted everything – my entire life history, it felt like!
Collecting Everything
Then came the real fun: gathering all the supporting documents. I had to request my transcripts, which required filling other forms and that had to be done in a very particular manner, sealed, blah blah blah. Pain in the butt.
- Transcripts: From every school I’ve ever attended, from my undergrad program to doctoral program.
- Verification of supervised hours:I had to track down my old supervisors and have them fill out forms confirming my hours.
- Background Check: Had to get fingerprinted.
Supervisor’s Endorsement
My doctoral program supervisor needed to send a specific endorsement and verification.

The Waiting Game
Once I had everything packaged up, I sent it off to the licensing board. Now, the waiting game. I have a lot of colleagues, and I know the process is slow, but it is progress!
I kept checking the online portal to see my application, and it finally changed to “approved, pending examination results”. That, to me, showed I had finally made it, after weeks of work to pass that stage.
So, I am finally a licensed psychologist. A lot of work, a lot of running around, but worth it.
