Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into IBDP Psychology lately, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride! I wanted to share my experience, from the very beginning to where I am now, because it’s been quite the learning process.

First off, I started by just reading through the textbook. I mean, that’s the obvious first step, right? I tried to get a general feel for the different topics, like cognitive processing, biological influences, and all that good stuff. It felt like a LOT at first, I’m not gonna lie.
Getting Organized
Then I realized I needed a better system. Just reading wasn’t cutting it. So, I grabbed a bunch of notebooks – one for each major topic. I started taking notes, summarizing key concepts, and trying to put things in my own words. This was a game-changer! It really helped me process the information instead of just passively reading it.
- Cognitive Approach
- Biological Approach
- Sociocultural Approach
- And don’t forget the approaches to research!
Practice, Practice, Practice!
After I felt like I had a decent grasp of the material, I moved on to practice questions. I found some past papers online and started working through them. At first, I was pretty slow, and I definitely made some mistakes. But the more I practiced, the better I got at understanding what the questions were asking and how to structure my answers.
One thing I learned the hard way was the importance of using the correct terminology. I remember losing marks on one practice paper because I used a similar word, not an exact term. That’s when I was starting to use flashcards. I wrote down all the key terms and definitions and tested myself regularly. Annoying? Maybe. Effective? Totally!

Connecting the Dots
As I got deeper into the subject, I started to see how the different topics are interconnected. For example, how biological factors can influence cognitive processes, or how sociocultural factors can shape our behavior. It’s like all the pieces of the puzzle started to fit together. I felt satisfying when I could connected those contents!
I’m still learning, and I definitely have areas where I need to improve. But I’m feeling much more confident about IBDP Psychology than I did at the beginning. It’s all about putting in the time, finding the right study methods, and persevering. And of course, I won’t forget share any good and practical skills and experience next time!
