Okay, so I finally got my hands on the “Invitation to Psychology 7th Edition” textbook. I’ve been meaning to brush up on my psych knowledge, and this seemed like a good place to start. Here’s how it went down:

Getting Started
First things first, I found the book. Not gonna lie, it took a bit of searching online. I eventually opted for a used copy to save a few bucks. It arrived in decent condition, a little wear and tear, but nothing major.
Diving In
- I started by flipping through the pages, getting a feel for the layout and the topics covered. It’s pretty dense, but the chapters seem well-organized.
- Then, I focused my intention on chapter one. I will get a general understanding.
- I decided to take it slow. I read a few pages each day, making sure I actually understood what I was reading. Highlighting key phrases that I can review at any time!
- Some of the concepts were familiar from way back when, but there was definitely a lot of new stuff too. I found myself googling some terms and watching a few videos to get a better grasp.
Taking Notes
I knew I wouldn’t remember everything, so I started taking notes. Nothing fancy, just jotting down key ideas and definitions in a notebook. I also tried to summarize each section in my own words – that really helped me process the information.
Feeling accomplished
-
I felt so good when I finished reading and taking notes, this feeling of accomplishment is truly amazing!
-
I might do this again, this is an interesting book!
Staying Consistent
This is the tricky part. I need to keep up the momentum. I’ve set a goal to read a chapter a week. It’s ambitious, but I think I can do it. I’ll probably need to schedule specific times for reading, otherwise, it’s easy to get sidetracked.
Overall, it’s been a good experience so far. I’m actually enjoying learning about this stuff. It’s challenging, but also really fascinating. We’ll see how I feel after a few more chapters, but right now, I’m feeling pretty optimistic. Wish me luck with chapter 2!
