Okay, so today I was digging into this whole “is psychology human services” thing. It’s been bugging me for a while, and I finally decided to get to the bottom of it.
I started by just, you know, thinking about it. What is psychology, really? And what are human services? I had some vague ideas, but nothing concrete.
My Research Process
So, I fired up my laptop and dove into the internet. I spent a good chunk of time just reading different articles and definitions. Here’s the gist of what I found:
- Psychology: It’s all about studying the mind and how people behave. Think therapy, research, and trying to understand why we do what we do.
- Human Services: This is more about helping people directly. Think social work, counseling, and providing support to folks who are struggling.
At first, it seemed like they were totally separate things. One’s all science-y, the other’s all about helping people in the real world.
But then I started to see the overlap. I mean, therapists are psychologists, right? And they definitely help people. So, there’s that.
I kept digging, and I found that a lot of human services jobs actually require some psychology background. Like, if you want to be a counselor, you probably need to know a thing or two about how the human mind works.
Also the research from psychology? It is also pratical used for helping people. So, it helps people too.
What I realized.
It’s kind of like… psychology is the “why” and human services is the “how.” Psychology figures out the underlying reasons for people’s problems, and human services uses that knowledge to actually help them.
So, to answer the question “is psychology human services?” – it’s not a simple yes or no. It’s more like… psychology is a tool that human services uses. It’s a big, important part of it, but it’s not the whole thing.
At the end, I realized psychology is part of human serivces. But it is more broad than that, it also including research part.
This whole thing was a bit of a brain-bender, but I’m glad I took the time to figure it out. It definitely cleared up some confusion I had!
