Okay, so I’ve been diving into AP Psychology, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey! I decided to tackle the “Learning” unit, and I figured I’d share my whole process, mess-ups and all.

Getting Started
First, I gathered my materials. You know, the usual suspects: my textbook, some highlighters (gotta have different colors!), and a fresh notebook. I also found some online resources, like practice quizzes and videos. Gotta have that variety, right?
The Deep Dive
Then, I started reading. Seriously, just plowed through the chapter. I highlighted what I thought were key terms and concepts, like “classical conditioning,” “operant conditioning,” and “cognitive learning.” I also tried to jot down some notes in my notebook, but honestly, it was mostly just copying stuff from the book at first. I was just trying to get a feel for the stuff.
Making it Stick
After the initial read-through, I knew I had to do something more active. Just reading wasn’t gonna cut it. So, I started making flashcards. Lots and lots of flashcards. One side had the term, the other had the definition or an example. This took forever, but it was worth it.
- I used the flashcards to quiz myself.
- I tried to explain the concepts out loud, like I was teaching someone else.
- I even drew some silly pictures to help me remember certain things. (Don’t judge, it works!)
Practice Makes Perfect
I also start to use some practice quizzes and tests online, which are really helpful. I did them again and again.

Putting it All Together
Finally, I tried to connect everything I learned to real-life examples. Like, how does classical conditioning explain why I crave popcorn every time I go to the movies? Or how does operant conditioning explain why my dog sits when I tell him to (because he gets a treat, obviously!).
It was a lot of work, but I feel like I finally have a good grasp on the “Learning” unit. And hey, if I can do it, so can you! Just remember, it’s all about finding what works best for you and sticking with it. Good luck!
