Okay, so today I decided to dive into the psychology program at Longwood University. I’ve been thinking about going back to school, maybe getting a degree in psych, and Longwood keeps popping up.

First, I checked out their main website. You know, the usual stuff – scrolled through the homepage, looked for the “Academics” tab, and then found the psychology department link. Pretty standard website navigation.
The psychology department page had a bunch of info. I spent some time reading through the different degree options. They’ve got a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts, and it looks like they have different concentrations, too. I’m not totally sure which one would be the best fit for me yet.
- Read about the B.S. degree.
- Checked out the B.A. requirements.
- Looked at the concentration.
Then I started digging into the faculty profiles. I wanted to get a sense of who the professors are and what their research interests are. Seemed like a pretty diverse group, which is cool. Some of them had links to their publications, so I skimmed a couple of those to get a better feel for their work. It all felt a little overwhelming, to be honest, but it was good to see the range of topics they cover.
Looking at Course
Next, I looked at the course catalog. That’s always the fun part, right? Seeing what classes you might actually be taking. They had everything from introductory psychology to more specialized stuff like cognitive psychology and developmental psychology. I made a mental note of a few that sounded particularly interesting.

I also tried to find some info on student life. Wanted to see if there were any psychology clubs or organizations. It looked like they have a Psychology Club and a chapter of Psi Chi, the psychology honor society. That’s definitely something I’d want to get involved in.
Finally, I jotted down some notes about the application process and deadlines. Don’t want to miss any important dates! It seems pretty straightforward, but I’ll need to gather my transcripts and maybe write a personal statement.
Overall, it was a pretty productive day of research. I’m still not 100% sure if Longwood is the right place for me, but I definitely have a better understanding of their psychology program now. It’s a starting point, at least! I’ll probably do some more digging on other schools too, just to compare my options.
