Okay, so I’ve been meaning to dive into psychology for a while now. It’s just one of those things that always seemed interesting, but, you know, life gets in the way. But I finally decided to just go for it, and I wanted to share my little journey of finding and starting to read a psychology book.

First, I googled “best introductory psychology books.” I figured that was a decent starting point. It’s not like I wanted to become a therapist or anything, just get a basic understanding, you know?
I got a bunch of lists – “Top 10,” “Best Sellers,” all that stuff. It was a little overwhelming, honestly. I saw some familiar titles, some I’d never heard of. I clicked on a few of the results, read some reviews. Mostly, just trying to get a feel for what was out there.
- Some books looked super academic, like textbooks.
- Others seemed more pop-psych, which I wasn’t really into.
- I was looking for something in the middle.
So, I narrowed it down to three books that sounded promising. I checked if my local library had them, and score! One of them was available. I put a hold on it, and a few days later, I picked it up.
Actually Starting to Read
It’s a pretty thick book, I’m not gonna lie. But the cover looked interesting, and I flipped through it a bit. The chapters seemed well-organized, and it didn’t look too dense with jargon. I started reading the introduction, and it was actually pretty engaging! It talked about the history of psychology and some of the big questions it tries to answer.

I’m only a couple of chapters in, but I’m already finding it pretty fascinating. I learned about different schools of thought, like behaviorism and psychoanalysis. Some of it is kind of weird, but it’s all interesting. I’m taking it slow, just reading a little bit each day. I even started highlighting some parts that I found particularly interesting or wanted to remember.
I’m definitely no expert, but I feel like I’m getting a better handle on what psychology is all about. It’s not just about Freud and couches, you know? It’s about how we think, how we learn, how we interact with each other. It’s pretty cool stuff.
I’m planning on keeping with it. Maybe I’ll even check out some of those other books on my list eventually. Who knows, maybe this is the start of a whole new hobby!
