Okay, so, I’ve always been kind of intrigued by tarot cards, but I never really knew how to use them, especially not on myself. But, you know, I figured, why not give it a shot? So, I started by grabbing a deck that I found appealing – you know, the images just spoke to me.

Then, I spent some time just looking at the cards, getting a feel for them. It was a mess at the beginning, but I kept doing it.
First, I cleared my mind, or at least tried to. I sat down, took a few deep breaths, and tried to let go of all the random thoughts bouncing around in my head. Then, I shuffled the deck while focusing on a question I had. I wasn’t sure what to ask at first, but then I settled on something general like, “What do I need to know right now?” Basic, I know, but it was a start.
Once I felt ready, I cut the deck into three piles and then put them back together into one. I’m not sure if that’s the “right” way to do it, but it felt right to me. Then came the fun part – laying out the cards. I decided to go with a simple three-card spread, because, well, I’m a beginner. I laid them out in a row, facedown.
Next, I flipped over the cards one by one. I took my time with each one, really looking at the images and trying to understand what they meant to me. I did a little bit of reading online about the basic meanings of each card, but I didn’t want to get too bogged down in the “official” interpretations. I wanted to see what the cards sparked in me personally.

- The first card was supposed to represent the past. Mine was the two of cups and I was shocked.
- The second card was the present, which was the ten of cups.
- The third card was the future, it turned out to be the ace of pentacles.
I jotted down my thoughts about each card and how they might relate to my question and to each other. It was kind of like putting together a puzzle, trying to see the bigger picture.
After that, I spent some time reflecting on the reading. I didn’t expect any earth-shattering revelations, and I didn’t get any. But it did give me some food for thought and helped me see things from a slightly different perspective.
I did this a few more times over the next few days, each time with a different question. It’s still all very new to me, but I’m enjoying the process of learning and exploring. It’s like a little self-discovery journey, one card at a time.
