Okay, so I wanted to figure out this whole “MSU Psychology Advising” thing. I’m thinking about switching my major, and psych is on my radar, so I needed to get the lowdown on how advising works at Michigan State University.
Getting Started
First, I visited the Psychology Department’s website. I figured that’s the most logical place to start. I spent like 20 minutes just clicking around, trying to find something, anything, about advising. It wasn’t super intuitive, I gotta say.
Finding Info (Finally!)
Eventually, I stumbled upon a section specifically for undergraduate advising. Phew! It talked about how they have different advisors for different things – like, general advising, research opportunities, and even career stuff.
Making Contact
Then I needed to do a little work. I checked out the list of advisors and tried to figure out who would be the best person to talk to about my situation. I ended up emailing one who seemed like a good fit, introducing myself and briefly explaining my interest in potentially switching to psychology.
The Waiting Game
Now, I’m in that awkward waiting period. I sent the email a couple of days ago and haven’t heard back yet. I’m trying to be patient, because I know advisors are probably super busy, especially at the beginning of the semester. It’s so hard not overthinking every detail of the email.
Next Steps (Hopefully)
My plan is to give it a few more days, and then maybe send a polite follow-up email if I still haven’t heard anything. I’m also considering checking if they have any drop-in advising hours, just in case that’s an option. Because I want the answer right away.
- Find a specific advisor and send out an email.
- Wait a few days, I know they must be very busy.
- If there is no reply, I will send a follow-up email.
- If it still doesn’t work, I am considering to check any drop-in advising hour.
Fingers crossed I can connect with someone soon and get some clarity on this whole psychology major thing! It’s a big decision, and I really want to make sure I’m making the right one.
