Alright, so I decided to check out the psychology job scene down in Miami. Heard things were happening there, lots of people moving, figured there’d be a need.

First thing I did was the usual routine. Got on my laptop, pulled up the big job websites – you know, Indeed, LinkedIn, places like that. Started simple, just typed in stuff like “psychology jobs Miami,” “mental health counselor Miami,” “therapist Miami.”
Right away, I saw a whole bunch of different things come up. It wasn’t just one type of job.
What I Found Mostly
- Clinical Roles: Lots of these. Therapists, counselors needed in clinics, hospitals, community health centers. Most of them were pretty clear you needed a license, like an LMHC or LCSW, sometimes a PsyD or PhD for psychologist roles.
- School Psychologists: Saw a fair few postings for psychologists within the school systems. Working with students, assessments, that sort of thing. Seemed like a steady path if that’s your area.
- Substance Abuse Counselors: Miami seems to have a consistent need here. Lots of facilities looking for people specifically focused on addiction.
- Research/Academic: Some jobs popped up tied to the universities, but those usually wanted PhDs and research experience, which wasn’t what I was aiming for right then.
- Other Stuff: Occasionally saw things like HR or organizational psych roles, but fewer than the clinical side.
Here’s something I noticed pretty quick: a lot of places were really looking for bilingual folks, especially English/Spanish speakers. Makes total sense for Miami, but it definitely made some jobs more competitive if you only speak English. It was listed as ‘preferred’ sometimes, but you got the feeling it was closer to ‘required’ for many patient-facing roles.
So, I started refining my search. I have my license, so I filtered for licensed clinical positions, mostly looking at outpatient clinics or maybe group practices. Didn’t really want hospital shifts at the time.

Then came the applying part. Updated my resume, tweaked my cover letter for each place – you know the drill. Sent out quite a few applications over a couple of weeks.
Getting responses was a mixed bag. Some places got back relatively quickly, others took ages, or never replied at all. Standard stuff, I guess. Did a few initial phone screens, then some video interviews.
The pay range was interesting. It seemed all over the place. Some seemed decent, others felt a bit low, maybe hoping people would take less just to live in Miami? Hard to say for sure, but it’s something I kept an eye on.
It wasn’t super easy, gotta be honest. Felt like a decent number of people were applying for the good spots. You really had to make sure your application was sharp and highlighted relevant experience, especially anything specific they mentioned in the posting.

Took some persistence, following up politely, and keeping track of everything. Eventually, I did find a good fit, but it wasn’t an overnight thing. You definitely need to put in the effort and be patient if you’re looking for psychology work down there, especially if you have specific requirements for the type of job you want.
