Okay, so I’ve been trying this thing lately, a little experiment really, and it’s tied to this whole “leaving one bite of food on your plate” idea. I heard about it somewhere, maybe a podcast or something, and I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” It’s supposed to help with portion control and being more mindful of your eating. Sounds simple enough, right?

So, I started this about two weeks ago. The first few days were… awkward. Seriously. I’d be eating my dinner, enjoying it, and then I’d get to the end and consciously have to leave a bite. It felt so wasteful! My brain was screaming, “But there’s still food! Finish it!” I had to really fight that urge.
- Day 1-3: Felt super weird. Almost forced myself to eat that last bite multiple times.
- Day 4-7: Started to get used to it, but still felt a little pang of guilt/wastefulness.
I kept a little journal, nothing fancy, just jotting down how I felt each day. I noticed that after about a week, it started to become… easier. I wouldn’t say it was natural, but it wasn’t the internal battle it was at the beginning.
The Shift
Around the ten-day mark, I started to notice something else. I was feeling full before I got to that last bite. Like, my body was actually signaling “Okay, I’m good” without me having to force it. That was a pretty cool moment. It was like my stomach and my brain were finally syncing up.
I also realized I was paying more attention to the food I was eating. Before, I’d often just wolf things down, especially if I was watching TV or working. Now, I was taking my time, savoring each bite (well, almost each bite!).

Two weeks in the experiment, leave one bite each * really make me feel good and my body and my brain are finally syncing up.
So, yeah, that’s where I’m at with this “one bite” thing. It’s not some magic bullet, and I’m definitely not perfect at it. But it’s been an interesting experiment in listening to my body and challenging my ingrained habits. I think I’ll keep it up for a while longer and see where it goes. Maybe it’ll become a permanent thing, who knows?
