Okay, so I finally got my hands on “Psychology 5th Edition”. I’ve been meaning to dive deeper into psychology for a while now, and this textbook seemed like a good place to start. My main goal was just to get a better understanding of, you know, how people tick.

Getting Started
First thing I did was just flip through it. It’s HUGE! Seriously, this thing is a brick. I spent a good hour just skimming the chapters, looking at the pictures and diagrams, and trying to get a feel for the layout.
Tackling the Chapters
- I decided to start with the chapter on “Research Methods”. Figured it would be good to understand how they actually do psychology before getting into the nitty-gritty.
- It was a little dry, I’m not gonna lie. Lots of talk about experiments and variables and stuff. But I pushed through! I took notes, highlighted key terms, the whole nine yards.
- Then I moved on to the chapter on “Biological Psychology”. This was way more interesting! Learning about the brain and how it all works was pretty fascinating.
- I spent extra time on the sections about neurons and neurotransmitters. I have been struggled to memerise all of them.
Making it Stick
To actually remember all this stuff, I did a few things:
- Flashcards: I made a ton of flashcards for the key terms and concepts. Old school, but it works!
- Summaries: After each chapter, I wrote a short summary in my own words. This helped me make sure I actually understood what I was reading.
- Quizzes: The book came with some online quizzes, so I used those to test myself. It showes how much knowledges I have got!
My takeaways
I spent probably a good week working through the first few chapters. I’m definitely not an expert now, but I feel like I have a much better grasp on the basics of psychology. It’s going to be a long process, I think to grasp all of these knowledges, but I’m excited to keep learning!
