Okay, so today I wanted to dive into something that’s been on my mind a lot lately: journey counseling and psychological services. I’ve been exploring different options for myself, and I figured I’d share my process, because, well, why not? Maybe it’ll help someone else out there.
Figuring Out What I Needed
First off, I had to get real with myself about what I was actually looking for. Was it just someone to vent to? Did I need help with a specific issue? Or was I looking for more long-term support? I spent a good chunk of time just sitting with my thoughts, writing stuff down in a notebook, and trying to make sense of it all.
It felt like a messy brain dump at first, but eventually, I started to see some patterns. I realized I wanted more than just a quick fix; I wanted someone who could help me understand myself better and work through some deeper stuff.
The Search Begins!
Once I had a (somewhat) clearer picture, I started looking around. I asked a couple of friends for recommendations, but most of them hadn’t tried counseling before. So, I turned to the internet, just like always.
I started looking for resources, reading articles, and trying to understand the different types of therapy and counseling available. Honestly, it was a bit overwhelming at first. So many options!
Narrowing it down.
I decided to consider some factors, location(nearby or online), cost(I have to consider it…), and therapist’s introduction(to see if we can get along well).
And I created a list using
- Location
- Cost
- Therapist’s Specialty
Because, well, I’m not made of money, and I didn’t want to spend hours commuting. Plus, I figured it would be good to find someone who had experience with the kind of things I was dealing with.
Reaching Out and Feeling Awkward
This was probably the hardest part. I had a list of potential therapists, but actually contacting them felt… weird. I mean, it’s not exactly something you talk about every day, right? “Hey, I’m a mess, can you help?” is so hard to speak out.

But I pushed myself to do it. I sent out a few emails, keeping them short and sweet, just explaining briefly what I was looking for and asking if they were accepting new clients. Some of them got no reply for a long time.
The First Consultations
I ended up scheduling consultations with a couple of therapists. These were basically short introductory calls to see if we’d be a good fit. It was a bit nerve-wracking, but also kind of exciting.
I remember feeling super awkward during the first call, stumbling over my words and probably not making much sense. But the therapist was really understanding and patient, which helped a lot. By the end of the call, I felt a little bit of hope, like maybe this could actually work.
Making a Decision (Finally!)
After talking to a few different therapists, I finally made a decision. It wasn’t easy, but I went with the one I felt most comfortable with, the one who seemed to “get” me the most. I also check his background and reviews.

It’s still early days, but I’m feeling pretty good about it. It’s definitely a journey, and I know there will be ups and downs, but I’m glad I took the first step. It’s like taking a weight off my shoulders, even just admitting that I needed some help. Wish me all the best.
