Okay, so I decided to check out the Midwestern Psychological Association Conference for 2024. I’ve heard good things, and honestly, I was just itching to get out and learn something new. So, I started by, you know, digging around online for information.
First, I checked out the conference website. It had all the basics – dates, location, and the general schedule. It seemed pretty packed with talks and workshops. I was like, “Cool, this looks promising.” I always make sure I have all the location details straight, nothing worse than getting lost on day one.
Planning the Trip
Next up was planning the actual trip. Flights and hotels, you know, the not-so-fun part. I spent a good chunk of time comparing prices and trying to find something that wouldn’t break the bank. I mean, conference tickets themselves aren’t exactly cheap, right? Ended up finding a decent deal on a hotel a little further out, but hey, saves some cash for conference snacks and coffee.
Choosing the Sessions
Then came the REALLY tough part – choosing which sessions to attend. There were SO many options! I literally spent hours poring over the program, highlighting the ones that sounded interesting, and then going back and narrowing it down. It was like, mental gymnastics, trying to figure out the best schedule.
- I made a list of my “must-see” presenters.
- Then I looked for sessions that fit my current research interests.
- And finally, I picked a few that were just completely out there, just to shake things up a bit.
I tried to use the conference app, too, that was offered. I was getting really excited to try it out, I even downloaded it!

The Conference Itself!
Finally, the conference arrived! It was a whirlwind of meeting people, taking notes, and trying to absorb as much information as possible. I attended some amazing talks, a few duds, but overall, it was a great experience. I jotted down tons of notes, mostly just quick thoughts and ideas that I could follow up on later.
I even managed to connect with a few people working on similar stuff to me, which was awesome. Networking is always a bit awkward, but hey, gotta put yourself out there, right? I even grabbed some extra cookies from the coffee break because, let’s be honest, free snacks are a conference highlight.
Post-Conference
After it was all over, I came back home feeling exhausted but also super energized. My brain was buzzing with new ideas. I spent the next few days organizing my notes, looking up references, and just generally processing everything I’d learned. It was a lot, but in a good way!

Overall, I’d say it was definitely worth the effort. I learned a bunch, made some connections, and got a much-needed dose of inspiration. Would I go again? Probably! But next time, I’m definitely bringing a bigger notebook… and maybe a bigger suitcase for all the freebies.
