Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “Year Ahead” tarot spread thing all over my socials, and I finally decided to give it a try. I’m not, like, a professional tarot reader or anything, but I do enjoy dabbling and seeing what the cards have to say. It’s kinda like a fun little self-reflection exercise, you know?

First, I grabbed my favorite tarot deck – the one with the really pretty watercolor artwork. I just feel more connected to it, I guess. Then, I found a quiet spot in my apartment, lit a candle (because ambiance!), and put on some chill background music. Gotta set the mood, right?
Next, I shuffled the cards while thinking about the year ahead. I wasn’t focusing on anything specific, just kind of generally asking for guidance and insight. I’m a pretty clumsy shuffler, so cards always go flying, but I just gather them back up and keep going.
The Spread
This spread is pretty straightforward. You basically lay out 12 cards, one for each month of the year, and then a 13th card in the center to represent the overall theme.
- Card 1: January
- Card 2: February
- Card 3: March
- Card 4: April
- Card 5: May
- Card 6: June
- Card 7: July
- Card 8: August
- Card 9: September
- Card 10: October
- Card 11: November
- Card 12: December
- Card 13: Overall Theme
So, I laid out the cards one by one, face down, in a circle. Then I flipped them over and… wow. Some of them were pretty intense! I won’t go into every single card, because that would take forever, but I’ll share a few highlights.

My January card was the Three of Swords, which, ouch. Not the best start, but it can mean heartbreak or difficult truths coming to light. Maybe it’s a sign to be extra mindful of my relationships and communication at the beginning of the year.
Then, surprisingly, my May card was The Lovers! That’s a pretty positive card, usually associated with big choices and partnerships. Could be romantic, could be business, could be anything, really. I’m keeping an open mind about that one.
The overall theme card was The Wheel of Fortune, which I found pretty fitting. It’s all about cycles, change, and destiny. Kinda reminds me that life is always in flux, and you gotta roll with the punches.
After looking at all the cards, I took some time to just sit with them and journal about my initial reactions. What did each card make me feel? What did I think it might be trying to tell me? It’s important to trust your intution.

I wrote down some keywords and phrases for each card, and I plan to revisit my notes throughout the year to see how things unfold.
Overall, it was a really interesting experience! I don’t think tarot is about predicting the future with 100% accuracy, but it can be a really cool tool for self-reflection and getting you thinking about different possibilities. I’m definitely going to keep an eye on these cards throughout the year and see how things play out. It’s like having a little roadmap for the year, even if it’s a bit mysterious!
