Okay, so I gotta share this thing I tried out the other day. It’s all about using reverse psychology in text messages. I know, sounds kinda manipulative, right? But hear me out!

It all started when I was trying to get my friend, let’s call him Mark, to go to this new burger joint with me. I’d been hyping it up for weeks, but he kept saying he was too busy, or too tired, or whatever.
So, I figured, what the heck, let’s try some reverse psychology. Instead of begging him to go, I texted him something like: “Hey Mark, don’t even bother going to that burger place. I went today, and it was totally overrated. You’re not missing anything.”
Yeah, I know, kinda harsh. But that’s the point, right? Make him think he shouldn’t want to do something.
Then, I waited. And waited. To my surprise, about an hour later, I got a text back from Mark: “Really? Everyone else has been saying it’s amazing. What didn’t you like about it?”
BOOM! He took the bait! Now, I didn’t wanna totally lie and say it was terrible, so I just said, “Nah, it was alright, just not worth the hype. Super crowded, long wait, you know how it is.”
And then, the golden text: “Hmm, now I kinda wanna check it out for myself. Maybe I’ll swing by tomorrow.”
YESSS! Victory!
Now, I wasn’t gonna push my luck, so I just played it cool. I replied: “Up to you, man. Just don’t say I didn’t warn ya.”

The next day, guess who texted me a picture of a massive burger? Yep, Mark! He said he actually loved it and thanked me for “warning” him. Hilarious!
Okay, so here’s what I learned from this little experiment:
- Reverse psychology can actually work, but it’s a gamble.
- You gotta know your audience. Mark’s the type of guy who likes to prove people wrong.
- Don’t overdo it. A little reverse psychology goes a long way.
- Be ready to back up your statements, even if they’re partially fabricated.
Would I use it again? Probably, but only in specific situations and with the right people. It’s definitely a tool to have in your arsenal, but don’t go around trying to manipulate everyone you know!
Disclaimer: I’m not a psychologist, and this is just my personal experience. Use reverse psychology responsibly (or not at all!).
Anyways, that’s my story. What about you guys? Ever tried reverse psychology in a text? How did it go? Let me know in the comments!
