Okay, so I’ve been wanting to get into tarot for a while now, and I finally decided to take the plunge. I’d heard good things about the Witches Tarot, so I grabbed a deck and figured, why not document the whole messy, beautiful process? Here’s how it’s been going.

Getting Started (and Feeling Totally Lost)
First, I just opened the box and looked at all the cards. Seriously, that’s it. The artwork is gorgeous, so I spent a good hour just admiring the pictures, getting a feel for the vibe. It felt a little overwhelming, 78 cards is a lot! I also read the small booklet with the cards.
Baby’s First Reading
Next, I decided to do a simple three-card spread – past, present, future. I shuffled the deck, really trying to focus on my question (which was super vague, like, “What do I need to know right now?”). Then I laid out the cards and… blanked. I had no clue what they meant!
Hitting the Books (and the Internet)
So, I grabbed the little guidebook that came with the deck. It helped a bit, giving some keywords and basic interpretations. But honestly, it wasn’t enough. I ended up Googling “Witches Tarot card meanings” and falling down a rabbit hole of websites and blogs. I must read some good blogs.
I started taking notes. Lots of notes. Like, a whole notebook full of notes. I wrote down the common interpretations for each card, but also any personal feelings or images that popped into my head when I looked at them. It was a slow process. I try to record every card with my understanding about it.

Practice, Practice, Practice (and Messing Up)
I started doing daily one-card draws, just to get familiar with the cards. I’d pull a card, look at it, write down my initial thoughts, and then check the guidebook or my notes. Sometimes I was way off, sometimes surprisingly close. It felt like learning a new language, very slowly.
- Major Arcana: These felt like the big, important cards. The Fool, The Empress, The Lovers… they all had such strong imagery and seemed to represent major life themes. I spent extra time with these.
- Minor Arcana: These were trickier. Four suits (Cups, Pentacles, Swords, Wands), each with cards numbered Ace to Ten, plus four Court cards. It felt like a whole system to learn. I focused on one suit at a time, trying to understand the overall energy of each.
It’s Starting to Click (Maybe?)
It’s still early days, but I’m starting to get a feel for the cards. It’s less about memorizing meanings and more about developing an intuition for what they’re trying to tell me. The Witches Tarot, with its beautiful imagery, has been a great deck to learn with. It’s still a journey, but I’m enjoying the process of discovery!
I still make mistakes, and I still rely heavily on my notes and online resources. But it’s getting easier, and more importantly, it’s getting more meaningful. I’m actually starting to use the cards to help me reflect on my own life and make decisions. It’s pretty cool.
